Chapter 1 of Genesis seems to be the overview of the creation of the earth. I still find it amazing he did it all in 6 days and rested the 7th. There was a phrase at the beginning of the 2nd chapter, though the beginning of the 2nd chapter seems like it should be part of the first chapter, that caught my eye. " By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all His work" Gen 2:2. When we take our own day of rest I think we have it messed up. For we do not finish out work for the week before our day of rest. So we either neglect the work we have left to do or we work on our day of rest. I am definitely one of both categories. I wonder if we could work harder for 6 days to allow a day of rest, or do we take on too much work to never get it done. Something to ponder I guess.
In Chapter 2, where I think it should start as chapter 2, it begins with verse 4 "This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created." With this God is clarifying more details of early creation. Some say that God created man twice, once in the 6 days and then a second in chapter 2. This would be wrong because God is backtracking to the day he created Adam and Eve, or created man in chapter 1:26-30.
I find it amazing that God created us with the intention of much power and responsibility. "Then God said ,'Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground," (Gen 1:26.) He gave us that power and responsibility and then we look to this day and age. What is our downfall? The abuse of power, the neglect of responsibility that coincides with that power. I have to think back to movie Spiderman "with great power comes great responsibility." God made us with the intention of having both. Yet with the first chance of responsibility He gave us we blew it in chapter 3. The power God instilled in us to rule and have authority wasn't enough. We decided we wanted more, and yes Satan did deceive us, but only by knowing where our weakness was. It was still our choice. God restricted us from one fruit, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. We disobeyed and ate of it, gaining the knowledge of good and evil. We got greedy so early on. What's funny though is it wasn't a good power to have, that knowledge. Think of a kid. Life is great for a kid without worry. As the child grows he gains more knowledge and understanding of the good and evil in this world. He starts finding out about wars, famines, abuse, rapes, molestation and all the sudden this innocent little child find disgust in the world around and looking inwards can see his own downfalls and problems. I think the same was with Adam and Eve. The were naked without shame, until they ate of the fruit. Once they ate of the fruit they realized they were naked, and were ashamed. They had the knowledge that would bring them an understanding of evil and good. They saw themselves, saw their flaws and were ashamed. No longer were they pure and could walk blameless, they were now sinful. All because the power they were given, the freedom they were given didn't correspond with the responsibility they were taking.
What power did God give me? What responsibility does God expect out of me? How naked am I?

The Beginning
So I think I'm going to try to endure and commit to a new project. God has made many changes in my life and now I'm at a stand still not knowing where He is taking me. Starting tomorrow morning, hopefully, I will get up the courage to pick up the Bible to begin. I am going to try to read the entire Bible in 365 days and blog what God speaks to me through each section. They may make sense and they may not. It is not a devotional for others but of expression of what's revealed and bringing that revelation hopefully to more of an understanding and deeper than just a simple read. I find myself drawing out more details and understanding far more if I write. So here I go, tonight I sleep and tomorrow I start. Wish me luck and pray if you read this. (Not that I'm probably going to tell many people about this. I don't know yet. We will see what happens.
